Dear Friends and Fellows of the Aloha Vintage Base Ball Association, We are most pleased to deliver this first official correspondence as our fledgling league prepares to take the field. Whether you are a player, supporter, or curious spectator drawn to the charm of 19th-century base ball, your presence is most welcome.
Below, we share several important announcements to prepare us for a grand first season:

A Call to Arms: The Northern Coast Classic (October 10-12) We seek no fewer than three brave souls to represent the Kingdom of Hawai'i abroad at the Northern Coast Base Ball Classic in San Francisco. This shall be our first official appearance beyond the shores of Hawaiʻi.
We endeavor to fundraise to assist with passage and lodging. If you wish to don the uniform in foreign lands or support the cause from home, kindly make yourself known. |

The Kalakaua Base Ball Jubilee (November 7-10) A most glorious occasion approaches: our first official AVBBA gathering, held in honor of His Majesty King Kalākaua. This Jubilee shall be the ceremonial opening of our season—and a celebration for the ages.
Two renowned mainland clubs, the San Francisco Pelicans and the Temecula Dear Bros, shall journey to Hawaiʻi to test their mettle against our own AVBBA teams.
Our festivities shall span several days:
- Friday, Nov 7: A welcome pāʻina—families encouraged to attend!
- Saturday, Nov 8: Opening Ceremony and a day of spirited matches, followed by an adults-only pau hana
- Sunday, Nov 9: More match play, trophy presentation
- Monday, Nov 10: A mālama Hawaiʻi volunteer gathering—our way of giving back to the land that gives us so much.

Ballists, Managers, and Haku -- We Need You! Our ambition: to field at least two full squads, with a grand goal of four. Following the Jubilee, the AVBBA season shall officially begin, running from November through March.
Matches shall be held regularly, and all are encouraged to join— be ye a gentleman or gentlewoman of stout heart and good humor.
We also seek those inclined to manage teams, serve as umpires, or—most urgently—don the mask of the catcher. If you or a friend possess the courage and flexibility to crouch behind the dish, we implore you to answer the call. |
|
Uniforms in Progress Fear not: period-appropriate uniforms are currently in production to represent our two founding clubs: the Royal Hawaiian Base Ball Club and the Waikiki Base Ball Club.
These will be ready ahead of our voyage to San Francisco. All who take the field shall do so in proper 19th-century attire. |

Our League Grows in Reputation and Support
We are in the process of acquiring 501(c)(3) status as a formal nonprofit league. In this endeavor, we are most grateful to our founding sponsors: Old Queen Street Stadium, Queen Kapiʻolani Hotel, Romer House Waikīkī, Patino Graphic Design and ESPN Honolulu.
Sponsor packets are available in both English and Japanese, and we welcome introductions to any persons or enterprises interested in supporting the league—whether by coin, material, or goodwill. |
|
This league is not merely sport—it is story. It is revival. It is community. We thank you for your enthusiasm, your fellowship, and your belief in this most joyful experiment in sporting history. Together, we shall bring the spirit of 1886 base ball to life—with grit, good humor, and the spirit of aloha.
